Tools & Materials Needed
To Make the Pin Board:
Scissors
Pencil
Measuring Tape
Homasote (or any fiber board) cut to your preferred size
Burlap (or fabric of your choice, enough to cover your pin board + approx. 3′′ on all sides)
To Hang the Pin Board:
Drill
Level
Wall Anchors (shhh, I skipped this part but for extra safety, you should use these!)
I cut the Homasote with my circular saw, but any hand saw or sharp blade will do! I did this outside because it was very messy.
Step One
Cut your Homasote (or fiber board) down to size, measure & cut your burlap (or fabric of your choice) to size.
Nobody told me working with burlap is so messy! My home is covered in burlap fuzz. Staple one side first completely in a straight line, pull tight from the opposite side & staple the opposite side.
Step Two
Lay burlap on top of Homasote, flip over. Pull burlap TIGHT & begin stapling 1 side first I found it easiest to staple one side completely & then pull extra tight & staple the reverse side. Then repeat for the remaining two sides. The corners require a bit of finessing, play around with the fabric until your corner looks neat & staple down don't worry if the back side is ugly, you'll never see it again!
Visible chic hardware for the win, just add a brass grommet around a brass screw & you’ve got a simple solution to hanging the pin board.
Step Three
Three steps in and we're already ready to hang our masterpiece! I told you this project is easy peasy.
Decide where you want your grommets to show on your pin board. I placed mine 1.75 in. Set grommet down, mark with pencil & place screw & drill through until the screw is barely puncturing the backside of the Homasote. Repeat for four to six screws depending on the size of your pin board. Mine are rather large so I added screws on all four corners & an additional two in the middle of the longest sides for additional support.
Hold your pinboard up to the wall. Easiest to call in support to hold the pin board for you while you use a level to make sure the pin board isn't crooked. Then simply drill your screws into the wall.
That's it! All done, a complete pin board ready to hold all your wildest inspirations.
The office refresh is slowly but surely inching towards completion. I may or may not be picking up my *budget* custom wool rug next week! (Never thought those words would go together.)
As always, more to come!
xx,
Claire
